ABOUT US

A few years ago four professional plein-air painters from the Boothbay region were at an opening. (Corinne McIntyre, Roger Milinowski and Ron and Monique Parry). Ron said, "Since we all usually paint by ourselves why don't we go out every Wednesday and paint together". And so the "Plein Air Painters of Maine" was born. What started out with just four of us now has six Chapters with over 572 members. At any given time in the summer there can be 14 to 20 people painting. In the winter there may only be two or three hearty folk. But the interest has never subsided. The comraderie, exchange of ideas and just plain fellowship with other painters is so rewarding.

The Boothbay Region, in fact, all of Maine, has a wealth of subject matter to paint. The sea, the coastal rocks, endless skies, seabirds, lobster boats, docks, fish houses...etc. It is so beautiful. A painters paradise.

AN OPPORTUNITY with MARY BYROM

Mary Byrom, Our Southern Chapter Organizer, is teaching a 2015 Winter Class. Mary is a great teacher and painter.

2015 WINTER CLASS ~ “PAINTING WITH CONFIDENCE” ~ Level:  Beginner to Intermediate
Class Description:  Learn to paint with confidence. This class is for painters who enjoy painting and want to improve their skills. Individual development will be nurtured. You will learn how handle challenging situations and become skilled at painting in the studio and/or en plein air. In the studio we will paint and practice exercises that specifically focus on refining our handling of paint and how to create the effects we want. We will learn how to mix and paint with fresh, clean color and how the use of form, line, value and temperature is important. We will learn how to make decisions and choices to keep our painting process on track. We will learn how to critique our own paintings and use memory exercises that will improve our painting. Students at all levels of painting will be able to improve through this process.  If you need to purchase paint and brushes for class please contact me.
Beginner and Intermediate painters are welcome.
