A few years ago four professional plein-air painters from the Boothbay region were at an opening. (Corinne McIntyre, Roger Milinowski and Ron and Monique Parry). Ron said, "Since we all usually paint by ourselves why don't we go out every Wednesday and paint together". And so the "Plein Air Painters of Maine" was born. What started out with just four of us now has six Chapters with over 572 members. At any given time in the summer there can be 14 to 20 people painting. In the winter there may only be two or three hearty folk. But the interest has never subsided. The comraderie, exchange of ideas and just plain fellowship with other painters is so rewarding.

The Boothbay Region, in fact, all of Maine, has a wealth of subject matter to paint. The sea, the coastal rocks, endless skies, seabirds, lobster boats, docks, fish houses...etc. It is so beautiful. A painters paradise.

Any painter is welcome to come paint with us. Just contact either Gmail below and we will let you know where we will be.

We shall post news of shows, awards, and other exciting things that happen to us. Send any news you would like others to know about to cmcintyrepaintings@gmail.com.

This class is for beginners to intermediate painters. The Plein Air Summer Class is  progressive instructional outdoor painting. We will meet at a different location every week.  Each class lasts 3 hours.  Student may work in oils, acrylics, water colors, gouache, pastels, colored pencils or ink,  painting or sketching, with a plein air easel and paint kit or with just a sketchbook, some pencils or markers, a tiny watercolor kit and a folding chair. The class is focused on individual growth/mentoring and individual coaching for each student.
In every 6 week session we cover specific skills and and techniques used in landscape painting.  When you register for the plein air class  (6 classes - $227) you will learn and develop techniques that will make you a stronger better painter, and how to critique your own work. Class will start with an overview, demo and a review of the previous week's work. Each session will build on past lessons and will expand  skills. Students can expect to become comfortable with their medium in the field.  If you have limited time or are a beginner and want to see if plein air painting is right for you, you may register for single classes.($52) If you have experience and want to move up to the next level this is a fit for you.
A student who completed my first plein air session worked hard and just had her first show this week. I helped her with what to show and how to price it. And she sold work. Bravo!
Any questions let me know.
