A few years ago four professional plein-air painters from the Boothbay region were at an opening. (Corinne McIntyre, Roger Milinowski and Ron and Monique Parry). Ron said, "Since we all usually paint by ourselves why don't we go out every Wednesday and paint together". And so the "Plein Air Painters of Maine" was born. What started out with just four of us now has six Chapters with over 572 members. At any given time in the summer there can be 14 to 20 people painting. In the winter there may only be two or three hearty folk. But the interest has never subsided. The comraderie, exchange of ideas and just plain fellowship with other painters is so rewarding.

The Boothbay Region, in fact, all of Maine, has a wealth of subject matter to paint. The sea, the coastal rocks, endless skies, seabirds, lobster boats, docks, fish houses...etc. It is so beautiful. A painters paradise.

Any painter is welcome to come paint with us. Just contact either Gmail below and we will let you know where we will be.

We shall post news of shows, awards, and other exciting things that happen to us. Send any news you would like others to know about to:

PAPME member Raphael DiLuzio has shared this opportunity with us.  You might want to take advantage of this. It sounds like a great chance to showcase your paintings.

The USM Art Galleries is currently seeking USM art alumni exhibition proposals for the Gorham Art Gallery, January 25-February 25, 2018, at the Gorham Art Gallery. Over the past several years, the gallery has hosted winter exhibitions focusing on USM and the surrounding community, displaying work by USM faculty, alumni, and Maine community organizations. Alumni have played a key role in these exhibitions, demonstrating the vitality of their individual work as well as their community involvement in the arts. This exhibition will highlight the artistic achievements and community-oriented strengths of USM art alumni who have graduated from USM before January 2017.
While proposals must be submitted by alumni, they may feature other artists with whom alumni share an affinity. Alumni may propose to exhibit their own work, their work alongside the art of one or more artists, or work by a community art group of which they are a part such as the en plein air painting or AART! group. Any media including digital, performance and installation is accepted. The proposal can include future work supported by existing images. The gallery is 40’ x 40' but your proposed work does not need to fill the entire space. Proposals are due May 1, 2017, and will be reviewed at the Gallery Advisory meeting on May 5. The final exhibition may combine two or more individual proposals, and it is possible that proposals may be accepted for subsequent years. Alumni whose proposals are accepted will be contacted by May 9. The Gallery will pay for return shipping of exhibition art works, a reception, and publicity. The gallery does not take a commission on sale of work. Please click link below to go to proposal page
